Distance Education Students

This webpage is dedicated to identifying services the University Counseling Center can offer to Distance Education (DE) Students.  

Services available to Distance Education Students:

  • Virtual Walk-in (Counselor on Duty) Consultations

Distance Education students may request a consultation with a counselor by calling 361-825-2703. Virtual Walk-In Hours are Monday – Friday, 9am-11:30am and 1-4pm. No appointment is necessary. The consultation with the Counselor-on-Duty (COD) will focus on assessing your current needs and devising a plan for addressing these needs. Some students find that this initial appointment is sufficient to resolve their immediate concerns. Others may benefit from a second consult, group therapy, participation in workshops, individual therapy or referrals to other campus or community resources.

  • Telemental Health Psychiatry Services

Distance education students may be eligible for telemental health psychiatry services if they pay the Student Services fee for the semester in which they are seeking services, are physically located in Texas, and are appropriate for telemental health treatment. In order to access UCC psychiatry services , students must be engaged in on-going counseling with a UCC counselor and be referred to the psychiatrist by their UCC counselor.  Learn More about Counseling Center Psychiatry Services.

  • TAO Self- Help

TAO gives TAMUCC students 24/7 access to mobile friendly self-help and therapy tools.  Learn more about TAO.

  • Crisis Services and After-Hours Crisis Line

If you are experiencing a crisis, are thinking about hurting yourself or someone else, or are having urges to use alcohol or other drugs to cope with an immediate crisis, help is available.   Distance Education students may access University Counseling Center Crisis Services by calling 361-825-2703.  During normal business hours, students should ask to speak with the Counselor on Duty.  Outside of normal business hours, students should follow the prompts to be connected with an after-hours counselor.   Crisis services may entail seeking assistance from crisis centers, community providers or police in the area where the student lives.  You can also dial 911 or phone one of the crisis hotlines listed below.

Treatment Referrals Outside of Texas

  • Educational Outreach Services and Self-Help Resources

Students at a distance can access Educational Outreach Services and Self-Help Resources through the University Counseling Center website.    Self-Help Resources Page


Students can access anonymous on-line mental health screenings for depression, anxiety, PTSD and alcohol / drug issues and information on how to access University Counseling Center services.  Mood Check Page

Online trainings on suicide prevention and how to help peers in distress are available as well as resources on domestic violence and resources on sexual assault


All students have access to Student Health 101, an online monthly magazine tailored to TAMU-CC students and parents with articles on a variety of college health issues related to stress, nutrition, relationships and general health.  Students can view videos of classroom presentations by Counseling Center staff on a variety of topics affecting college students.  Other self-help resources include resources on coping and wellness, improving academic skills, and a listing of smart phone apps to help with anxiety, sleep, goal setting, and relaxation.    Link to student health 101
