Office Safety Precautions During the Pandemic

The University Counseling Center (UCC) is taking the following precautions to protect students and our staff and help slow the spread of the coronavirus.

  • The UCC is using a tele-mental health service model and delivering all services via phone or secure videoconference. This allows students to access services from the privacy, convenience, and comfort of their home.    Students who need access to a private location or technology for tele-mental health appointments may make arrangements to reserve a room in the UCC for this purpose.  In person appointments are limited to serious crises involving safety concerns and require approval by a UCC director.
  • Office seating in the waiting room and therapy rooms has been arranged for appropriate physical distancing.
  • UCC Staff wear face coverings during all encounters with students, staff, and visitors.
  • All visitors to the UCC (including students) are required to wear a face covering. Visitors may either bring their own face covering, or a disposable face covering will be provided to them.
  • Hand sanitizer dispensers are located in the lobby, and adjacent to the rear first floor exits and the upstairs door. All staff, students and visitors must sanitize their hands when they enter and exit the building.
  • Restroom and kitchen soap dispensers are maintained and frequent hand washing is encouraged.
  • The UCC will be scheduling appointments at specific intervals to minimize the number of people in the waiting room.
  • We ask that students wait in their car or outside until no earlier than 5 minutes prior to their appointment time, and use their own phone/tablet/laptop (if possible) to check in and do any required paperboard prior to their appointment.
  • Office items such as clipboards, chairs, and other items that are commonly touched will be sanitized after each use.
  • Primary touch surfaces (e.g., chair, desk, keyboard, light switch) in offices that students may use for tele-mental health appointments or other meetings will be sanitized after each use.
  • Physical contact is not permitted.
  • Tissues and trash bins are easily accessed. Trash is disposed of on a daily basis.
  • Common areas are disinfected each day.
