How to Initiate Counseling

Call (361) 825-2703 Monday through Friday during virtual walk-in hours from 9:00-11:30am and 1:00-4:00 pm and ask to speak with a counselor.  No appointment is necessary.

You will have an initial consultation with the Counselor-on-Duty (COD) which will focus on assessing your current needs and devising a plan for addressing these needs.  Some students find that this initial appointment is sufficient to resolve their immediate concerns.  Others may benefit from a second consult, group therapy, participation in workshops, individual therapy or referrals to other campus or community resources.

Since the Counseling Center utilizes a brief therapy model (with a maximum of 15 sessions per academic year), students who need intensive weekly counseling or long-term treatment are not a good fit for our services.   The COD will assist you with either scheduling a counseling appointment or helping you to connect with campus or community resources to best address your needs.

In the event of a crisis, call the Counseling Center during our regular business hours to speak with a counselor.  After hours, call (361) 825-2703 and press 2 to be connected to the emergency after hours counselor.

Do I Pay for Services?

Currently enrolled TAMUCC students who have paid the Student Service Fee are eligible for an initial consultation appointment.   There are no fees for individual or group therapy. There is a $25 fee for missed appointments and late cancellations. There are additional fees for psychiatric services.
