Accessing Counseling Services
If you are interested in counseling, please CALL OR VISIT our office Monday through Friday during walk-in hours from 9:00-11:30am and 1:00-4:00 pm. You will have a brief (15-20 minute) consultation with the Counselor-on-Duty which will focus on assessing your current needs and devising a plan for addressing these needs which may include referring you to other campus or community resources. Service during walk-in hours are first come, first served basis and end once we reach capacity. Interested students should arrive as close to start time to secure a spot. WE ENCOURAGE STUDENTS TO CALL TO SPEAK TO A COUNSELOR BY PHONE IF THIS IS FEASIBLE.
Since the Counseling Center utilizes a brief therapy model (with a maximum of 15 sessions per academic year), students who need intensive weekly counseling or long term treatment are not a good fit for our services. The Counselor-on-Duty will assist you with either scheduling a counseling appointment or helping you to connect with campus or community resources to best address your needs.
In the event of a crisis, either call or come to the Counseling Center during our regular business hours to speak with a counselor. After hours, call (361)825-2703 and press 2 to be connected to the emergency after hours counselor.
Do I Pay for Services?
Currently enrolled TAMUCC students who have paid the Student Service Fee are eligible for an initial consultation appointment. The Counselor on Duty will then determine if you are a good fit for our services or if your needs would be better served in the community. There is a $25 fee for missed appointments and late cancellations.
